A choir's dedication
The DuPont Diversity Choir will
perform
at the "Morning Joy" event at 8 a.m. Sunday during the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
ceremony
in Washington, D.C. The choir will sing a selection of songs chosen for the dedication, which was rescheduled because of the threat posed by Hurricane Irene. Participants include celebrities and civil rights leaders, as well as President Barack Obama, though the event is expected to draw only 50,000
people
-- a quarter of the August estimate. The choir,
founded
in 1991, is 50
members
strong and has a tradition of honoring the slain civil rights leader on his holiday in January. Also of note is that DuPont Co.
donated
$1 million toward the
development
of the $120 million memorial.
