Body of Michigan soldier arrives at DAFB

BOYNE CITY, Mich. - The body of a 20-year-old Michigan soldier killed in the Afghanistan war has arrived back in his homeland. A plane carrying the flag-draped coffin of Army Pvt. 2nd Class Jackie L. Diener (DY'-nur) II of Boyne City unloaded today at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. A military honor guard carried the coffin from the plane to a transport vehicle. The Pentagon says Diener died Monday in Kandahar province after being wounded in a small-arms attack by insurgents. Diener was part of the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, N.Y. Diener enlisted in March and was deployed to Afghanistan in September. He was a 2009 graduate of Boyne City High School. The Petoskey News-Review says funeral arrangements are incomplete. [More]
