Del. Announces Statewide Flu Clinics

Health officials recommend everyone 6 months and older should get a flu shot. To help make that happen, the Delaware Division of Public Health has announced its 2011-2012 flu clinic schedule, which will run statewide from Oct. 11 to Dec. 1.

"Today's flu shots are very safe," said DPH Director Dr. Karyl Rattay. "It's especially important that anyone with a chronic health condition or who cares for or lives with someone with a chronic condition get immunized."

DPH flu shot clinics are intended for Delaware residents age 9 and older who do not have a health care provider or whose insurance does not cover flu shots. The vaccine is the same as last year and the nasal spray vaccination is available in addition to the typical shot. DPH has received nearly 30,000 doses of vaccines and distributed approximately 20,000 so far. Health care providers, pharmacies and grocery stores are also offering flu vaccinations statewide.
