Seaford Mural of 'Hope' Completed

Volunteers completed a mural underneath the Stein Highway Bridge as part of a new peer center's opening ceremony on Thursday.

Fellowship Health Resources, Inc., will provide treatment and some housing for people coping with mental health and substance abuse issues at the new Acceptance, Change, Empowerment Center. The ACE Center looks out underneath Stein Highway.

Paint and equipment was donated by numerous sponsors in the Seaford-area for the mural inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope." Volunteers included students from Seaford High School.

Jim Martin, a peer specialist with Fellowship Health Resources, Inc., said the new mural will hopefully inspire people going through counseling.

"There was a lot of graffiti on the walls," Martin said. "It was a place where we wanted to try to beautify the area and speak to the business community. We are trying to make a difference down here and trying to change it over to a place of hope instead of hopelessness."
